Hello my name is Mille, and I am 17 years old.
I am from Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. I study at Rysensteen Gymnasium which you can compare to a high school, only ours is just a bit harder than average. If you want the go to our school you have to write a personal letter to the office, where you explain why you should be accepted into Rysensteen. This makes the level in our school really high, and you have to work hard to keep up your grades.
I was born in Vesterbro, a place where a lot of Hipsters lives. My mom and dad haven’t lived together since I was 2 years old. I have an older brother at 19 and a little sister at 10. My brother and I have the same father, and my sister has a different father. This does not have an impact in my relationship with my sister, she is just as much of a part my family as my brother.
It is quite normal in Denmark to get a divorce, and over 40 % of all marriages end in divorce.
The culture in Denmark is a really big deal for us, and we learn from an early age that almost everything can be accepted into society. We are very open-minded, and this allows us to be anything we want. I like this part of Denmark, and I feel quite satisfied living here.
We enjoy our city, and the experiences and moments it gives us.
What makes Denmark really special is that we don’t have to pay for our education. Not only don’t we have to pay, we actually get paid for it. This is called SU and it makes it possible for us to only require a part time job, instead of working all the time.
I have a lot of hobbies, and can’t possibly write them all down, but here are some of them. I like to listen to music, and have a bit of a weird taste. I like old classic rock, metal, pop, alternative and sometimes I catch myself listening to hip hop. Music plays a big part in part for the youth in Denmark. Almost 80 % of our entire school spends the first week of their summer at Roskilde Festival. The Festival is one of the biggest in Europe, and it is able to get some really big name such as Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen and Prince.
I also like movies and think the reason behind it, are that my family is a bunch of movie lovers.
When I finally graduate from Rysensteen, I want to study media science at the university of Copenhagen. I like the idea of creating a story visually; it allows more of the emotions to get through to the viewer. That is why I have chosen be a part of the school musical, which is a big production every year. I am going to write the script and create the costumes for the show. There are a lot of talented people on Rysensteen, and the musical creates an opportunity for the talent to get the acknowledgment it deserves.
I hope that when you come and visit us in Copenhagen, you will see the city like I do. Which is a city full of life and acceptance.
